What affects the price of a drone roof survey?
- Size and shape of the roof. A simple terrace roof takes a few minutes to photograph. A large farmhouse with outbuildings, valleys, dormers and several chimneys takes longer.
- Travel. Most surveyors price by distance from their base. We’re in Darlington, so County Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire are close by.
- Airspace. Some addresses, for example near Teesside or Newcastle airports, need permission before a drone can fly. A professional operator handles this for you.
- What you get. Photos only, photos plus video, or a written report. Some companies also offer thermal imaging at extra cost.
Why a drone survey is usually cheaper
The main saving is that nobody needs to get onto the roof. There’s no scaffold to hire for weeks, no cherry picker, and much less time on site. That’s also why it’s safer: working at height is one of the main causes of serious injury in construction, and a drone stays in the air while the pilot stays on the ground.
When a drone roof survey is worth it
- You’ve got a leak or damp patch and want to find the cause before calling a roofer.
- You’re buying a house and want to see the roof before you commit.
- You’re a landlord checking several properties.
- A storm has been through and you want to check for loose or missing tiles.
- You’ve been quoted for roof work and want to see the problem for yourself.
A drone survey shows you the condition of the roof. It doesn’t replace a roofer if you need tiles lifted or the underside checked. Our guide on drone vs traditional roof inspections explains the difference.
